Yea I do it my way. I use a little of this and a little of that...then you put your left hand in, you put you left hand out, you do the hokey-pokey and you shake it all about, you do the hokey-pokey and you turn yourself around...that's what it's all about!!
So what dose the hokey-pokey recovery look like. Well it has a lot of humor. Except the times when my passive aggressive defects come out. Then I tend to mock higher powers. Presently that has gotten me into hot water with a moderator at Sober Recovery. I still need a lot of work on letting go of my past childhood religious trauma. I'm currently in a group for PTSD. So I'm a work in progress. For now I need to stay from all discussions higher power related until I develop more spiritual tolerance. I also work a personalized recovery program that includes (in no particular order): Sober social events at the local Alano Club (dinner and dance tonight), one DRA meeting weekly, a therapist, two groups at the mental health clinic a week, online sobriety support sites (I belong to plenty of those), learning about addiction from research, science and psychology (including SMART Recovery's REBT approach to addiction), sober friends, case worker, sober supported housing from Tuning Point Foundation and Buddhism. Well that's it for now, happy to be here and will offer what support I can for others in recovery. See ya on the forums, posts and threads. Peace and blessed be.

![]() When I hear Jesus mentioned in the room..OMG it takes all I can not to open my mouth. And most of the people are of the so called Christian faith or orientation or whatever it is. I said yesterday at a meet that I think we aught to get Agnostics in AA started around here...LMAO you should have seen all the sour faces at me. Well anyways...I like Smart, Rational is OK and a few others but I can did the ISM (I Sponsor Myself) although I do have a closed mouth friend. |

Hey Zen
I think we use whatever works for us in recovery. Bill W said it would be egotistical to think AA was the only way to go. I get my spirituality from all over the place, whatever sits right in my heart I take, and leave the rest.

I have my moments in recovery when I am focused on the task at hand and very little bothers me about the spirituality of others. But when I uncover some past hurt in my PTSD trauma group I become unsettled. Its this disorientation that brings out the pissed off atheist of my past. It is a unfortunate history to have in recovery but I'm working hard to change that.
I too sponsor myself Vic and yes I would enjoy going to an A.A. We Agnostic meeting. Citychik, I'm working on that too, thanks for the reminded,

i said this before, and will say it many times again... the word god is just a word...
something to be related to... for me, i always isolated myself, alienated myself... that terminal uniqueness... we say its a we program, whatever it may be... useing just one little word is a bond of recovery... when we oopose it, were back to being unique... i have de-associated religion from the little word god... and how i started it was by saying, the powers that be... for me, IMO of course... and zen, the hokie pokie recovery isa kin to aunt tilies recovery program... lol ps,is it brainwashing? you bet, my freak'n brain needed a Maytag! good wishes all rz

I am not sure exactly what that is but I don't try and figure things out too much anymore. I finally had to just let go of a lot of different things and for me what I have turned too which most wouldn't agree with has been keeping me pretty darn happy. that is what is important to me today, being happy. I have found it *(happiness)* now I am sure that it won't always be happy go lucky and free but it sure in the hell is a lot better than what it has been over the past 26 months. so for that I am grateful.
