Im not sure if this is right place for this but anyway I work at a church and we rent out a reception hall for various occasions, I am coming up on my 4 year aniiversary but in a week or so they booked the hall for a wedding recptionand asked me to work it, clean up and so on, I just found out today they will be serving alcohol at the reception, I do not want to be around it one bit so I said I will not work any event where there is alcohol served, I feel bad for this but I will not jeaperdize my sobriety for any reason. I guess my question is did I do the right thing?

I tell people all the time that if they are not ready to test yourself, then don't. It sounds like you are very much aware of your feelings and your thought on being around alcohol any time. I think you made the right choice if it is what you belive and feel is right.
![]() If they have a problem with that then it is their issue, especially if they know where you are coming from and what you are doing for yourself. Congradulations on your up coming birthday, I am coming up on 4 years myself at the end of the month. Jacob.

I absolutely agree! Nothing ever comes in the way of your sobriety. You are to be commended on standing up and remaining true to your own feelings and beliefs. If you can not or choose to not be around alcohol and don't feel comfortable then you never have to put your self in that situation of testing yourself until you are 100% certain you can deal with. Good job! You can remain true to your convictions unfortunately it's much more difficult to change general policy in such places like that where alcohol is the norm for most. What's important is you stood your ground.

I agree you did the right thing. You come first. Recovery comes first.
