Suboxone technically falls in the category of opiates, therefore, prolonged use or repeated doses can cause withdrawal symptoms when the patient suddenly stops taking the drug. However, unlike other opiates (such as heroin), withdrawal from suboxone is less severe since it is just a short acting and partially activating type of opiate.
